The Five Stages Of Learning ‘Psych’ Is Ending

We knew it was inevitable, but it hurts just the same: USA Network’s beloved Psych is ending after it’s eighth season.

Like the death of any friend or family member, dealing with the loss of Shawn, Gus, and the gang at the Santa Barbara Police Department needs to be worked through with time, patience, and a whole lot of tissues.

If you are a true “psycho,” here is what you can expect in the coming months:

Denial

It’s easy to simply shut down and not accept what you’re hearing. Maybe this is just one of Shawn and Gus’ classic pranks? Maybe they faked their own show ending so that they could make a BIGGER BETTER show after a short break?

Unfortunately, this wishful thinking doesn’t change the fact that as soon as you convince yourself that everything is fine, you’ll turn around and there it will be: reality.

Anger

FINE IF YOU’RE GOING TO STOP MAKING PSYCH I’M GOING TO STOP LOVING PSYCH. SEE? TWO CAN PLAY AT THIS GAME! I DON’T NEED PSYCH, I DON’T NEED ANYBODY.

Bargaining

Depression

But, of course, none of that works. Psych is ending and there is nothing you can do about it. You are so completely alone in the world. No one can possibly understand how you feel. Sure your friends liked Psych, but they hardly ever quoted it line-for-line at parties like you did. They have next to nothing to say about Mary Lightly and refused to read your 30-page thesis titled “Pierre Despereaux: Friend or Foe?” out of hand.

This is the worst day of your life.

Acceptance

But maybe this is okay. Maybe it was time.

Shawn, Gus, and the fine men and women at the Santa Barbara Police Department will say goodbye with an hour-long live special set for March 26th. Afterwards, the gang will stick around to do a Q&A discussion (if you were born after 1995, think of it like a Reddit AMA only in front of a live studio audience).

But you still sure will miss this show.
