Nike is Finally Working on the Power Laced Shoes From ‘Back To The Future II’
In the greatest advancement in human technology since power sliced bread, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield (yes, that’s a real name) says that by 2015 the power laces featured in Back To The Future II will be a reality.
If you aren’t familiar with the Nike Air MAG which Marty McFly wears in the film, they are futuristic shoes that look comfortable as hell and also lace themselves up at the push of the button. If you aren’t familiar with Back To The Future more generally then get out, we don’t want you here!
At a NBA All Star weekend event, Hatfield was asked if we would be seeing the power laces any time soon.
“Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!”
Whether they will be installed in shoes that are identical to the ones worn in the movie is unclear. Fortunately, the potential is there. In 2011, Nike released a limited-edition version of the BttF2 shoe. It seems like a perfect moment to outfit them with their most signature feature.

Now Back To The Future II came out in 1989, so obviously the technology nowadays is a bit more sophisticated. It’s likely that any shoe featuring power laces won’t have to be “powered” by five dudes lying around you every time you slip on your kicks.

Although, it would still be worth it.
The best part of this news? 2015 is the year the shoes existed in the movie, meaning Nike is right on schedule. A world that looks a bit more like the one in Back To The Future is fine by us. Now all that is needed is the hoverboard.
