Jack Black To Star In ‘Goosebumps’ Movie

Get your nostalgia hats out boys and girls, because Goosebumps is coming to a theater near you.

Director Rob Letterman (Gulliver’s Travels, Monsters vs Aliens) has signed on, as has his perennial favorite actor, Jack Black. The two have already collaborated in “Gulliver’s Travels” and “Shark Tale”

According to TheWrap, Black will be playing an “R.L. Stine-like” author whose scary characters come to life, forcing him to “hide from his own creepy creations.” That sounds like a Goosebumps story, if there ever was one.

“Goosebumps” was one of the most successful children’s book series in history. It’s total sales are only surpassed by the one and only Harry Potter novels. Meanwhile, Black has also been keeping busy. Aside from reprising his role of Po the Panda in “Kung Fu Panda 3,” he has been getting acclaim for his dramatic acting chops in “Bernie.” Black has become an indominatable force in Hollywood and a rare triple threat. He can please critics, adult movie goers, and – the most elusive – kids as well. Maybe it’s because he manages to look so good getting slimed.

Depending on execution, a “Goosebumps” movie could have the potential to be a mega-hit. To do so, it will have to manage the difficult balance between nods towards its past (to please the adults who had grown up on the books) and pulling in the younger generation who have probably never heard of the book series. If it stays true to its spooky roots, it should have no problem accomplishing both.
