Heroes is coming back as a mini-series

NBC’s Heroes was notable for being one of the biggest highs in superhero television, followed by one of the lowest lows. Heroes started out so well, with interesting characters, a bag full of mysteries, and awesome superpowers. Unfortunately, as the seasons wore on (and the infamous writers strike did its damage), the show ground to a halt. The show increasingly looked directionless and frustrating. read more

Aquaman #28 Review

Aquaman fights some sharks and, on the surface, has a high school reunion to attend.

Analysis

Jeff Parker is starting to really solidify himself as writer of this series. He has continued to delve into the big moments which show why Arthur is the hero he is. We even see it done in a couple of ways in this issue. The first, more straightforward example of heroism, is when Aquaman valiantly dives after a stray diver being attacked by a group of sharks when his Atlantean soldiers do nothing. While diving in Arthur simply shouts “What’s your problem?! A man is dying in there!” read more

True Detective Episode 6 “Haunted Houses” Recap: The 2002 Reveal and the Beginning of the End

Though many questions were posed, the simplicity of this week’s episode came as a breath of fresh air, as fans are just now coming up to the surface after last week’s existential deep dive.

Episode 6 begins with Marty serving his preferred method of justice on the 19-year-old boys caught in a car with his 16 year old daughter. Though what they were doing was enough to send any father into a justifiable rage, “promiscuity” seems to be a sensitive subject for Marty. Earlier in the season when they went out to the Bunny Ranch during their investigation,  we saw Marty take a personal interest in the well-being of one of the working girls, Beth who was also underage at the time. As he left he slipped her some money saying “do something else.” Later in the season when Marty burst into the house of his mistress to catch her “cheating,” he pinned her new beau to the bed forcing him to admit that she’d given him head. Just the right amount of promiscuity needed in order for Marty to separate himself from her in disgust. read more

New Trailer Gives Us the First Real Look at the Promising Godzilla Reboot

“You are not fooling anybody when you say that what happened was a natural disaster…”

Everybody’s favorite giant, scaly Nuclear bomb allegory is getting a reboot and in 2 minutes it already looks a thousand times better than the last Godzilla reboot.

Look, I know we were all burned by the 1998 Godzilla – with its idiotic premise, bad acting, logical inconsistencies, and inability to capture even a speck of the originals importance – but there are a few reasons to be optimistic about this one. Hollywood has been quietly experimenting with a radical new concept: every once in a while they try to make movies smarter. read more
